Core Game Mechanics
I'm almost a week in development and the project has gone through many changes. Initially I wanted it to be a 3rd person explorer game, but I fell in love with the idea of, you as the player observing the game characters through a "fixed" camera and not necessarily focusing on one player.
I also love the idea of a "timeless" game (I don't know the actual definition), more specifically opening a game and building something for a couple of days and coming back to it being complete. This, inspired by Clash Of Clans (my favourite game), is a feature I've been thinking alot about and I have many ideas and ways to go about implementing it. This gives a much deeper connection to the game you're playing, I've had my village since 2015 and as many times as I delete the game for a break, I keep going back just for the fact that I've been maxing out my village for almost a decade!
I'm sure there are many more games with a similar mechanic, but Clash Of Clans is the one that sticks out the most to me. I am of course in no rush to implement this because I want to have a fully simulated game world with a somewhat decent gameloop before I start experimenting with more complex features. (Sidenote. I might just do this for a bare bones project just to get a feel of the development process)
There are a lot of little mechanics in the current project that I find quite interesting and could be used to build entire games (simple ones). This is something I enjoy most about development, having a rush of ideas while working on another one. I could possibly introduce mini games just for the sake of experimenting with these mechanics.
Another thing to add is that I never thought I'd ever do linear algebra again after graduating. This whole week I've been having flashbacks of my final year Math classes haha, but atleast I get to use everything I learned in that comp sci degree. I haven't implemented any complex calculations yet so this should be fun..
